My story...
My name is Ryan Colley, and I am living my dream as a high school Social Studies teacher in southeast Pennsylvania! From a very young age I always found history, ancient civilizations, other cultures, government, and economic principles fascinating. I graduated from West Chester University in the Spring of 2009 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Professional Education. I contemplated other fields of work during my senior year in college, but I knew education was for me when I student taught at the Center for Arts and Technology - Pickering Campus in Phoenixville, PA. I spent the next two years as a daily substitute in Chester County, PA before being hired as a building substitute at West Chester East High School in West Chester, PA. The following year I signed a contract to become a full time Social Studies teacher at Beverly Hills Middle School in Upper Darby, PA. I spent three years at "BH", which is one of the most diverse middle schools in the entire state of Pennsylvania. This year I moved to Upper Darby High School where I teach "Global Studies" to ninth grade students, some of whom I had last year! I am lucky to have hardworking, determined, and appreciative students and I especially enjoy the unique challenges of teaching ELL (English Language Learner) students.
Although I no longer teach at Beverly Hills, it will always have a special place in my heart. I met Danielle, the love of my life, while working at "BH". We were married this past November and were very lucky to be surrounded by so many friends (including many colleagues!) and family. Danielle is a Learning Support teacher and now works with autistic students at Phoenixville Area Middle School. We live in Thorndale, PA with our dog Tuck.
